Marauder Shields 36: Memories That We Are (Ver. A) by koobismo Marauder Shields 36: Memories That We Are (Ver. A) by koobismo
The 36th Episode of the "Marauder Shields" Mass Effect Comic.

In this one... The strings of the puppeteer are cut, as a central character fights to wake up.

BACKGROUND MUSIC

Be sure to play this track in the background to upgrade your reading experience: [link]

OTHER VERSIONS

Shepard is a Colonist [link]
Shepard is Earthborn [link]

AFTERWORD

On the narrow path...

This episode concentrates on Shepard fighting to remember, to reignite the fire that the Reapers attempted to extinguish completely. As you might notice it also kills off the StarChild for good, assigning his face and role in the story prior to ME3's finale to a completely different backstory, different character, different meaning... Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. ;)

A full-on clarification about this arc and what it means is incoming in the next Shep/Thane episode, but those of you who like to create their own theories should already be able to piece this little puzzle together.

As our mid-season finale is finally around the corner (Episode 40!), expect the pace of the action to... Pick up significantly. ;)

GENERAL INFORMATION

This is an ongoing story providing an alternative fan-made ending to the Mass Effect trilogy, with our own game-changing maverick transforming the course of history: Marauder Shields. Be sure to start reading at episode 6. Special thanks to MichelKobayashi and my awesome team, especially our editor - AdoreeLyssa!

Hope is Alive!

[The Mass Effect universe, its design and characters are owned by BioWare/EA Productions. This is a work of parody and fan-fiction, created under the terms of fair use. Special thanks to BioWare for creating the world we all love and care for! I remain a huge ME & BW fan!]

P.S. Help me spread this series around - retweet, send out links, share this with your friends and post it on your facebook wall!

Man, canīt wait to see the audiobooks of the "thane chapters". Especially this one, because itīs the first time in your Story, that Shepard speaks.

Also read your Interview you gave at Gamefront.com. Have you met Mitch, Zac and James too there? And you REALLY !!!! planing to make a whole big Audiobook at the end? :O

Just a reason more to wait eagerly for every new episode :)

I feel like i`m (with a little imagination) watching the cut scenes from an ME3 that was made by Pre-EA bioware.

You know, the bioware that didn`t make shit and tell us that it was art.

You are infinitely more artistic than those brain dead morons.

2 comments on one comic but this one is more serious. :) The codex reminds me of a River Song line from a Doctor Who episode where she says along the line of 'you don't let the doctor see the consequences' (tried to stay spoiler free) :) That seems to be what happened, Shepard doesn't need to know that the person that s/he saved from bullies so long ago died to the reapers anyway ;).
Also the "s/he" thing got me thinking, are you going to try to run 2 versions once you *hopefully* wake Shepard up, one male and one female? This would be really neat but man that is a lot of extra work unless you went lazy and just changed the picture (which you haven't done yet with the versions). I can't remember if this was already discussed. As kind of a complement to your work when I try to remember what happened previously it is so much head cannon to me that it blends with the actual game. When I am thinking back after many months since playing its hard to remember which was game and what was you :)

Hopefully the better parts was me. :D /not_humble_today

Yeah, femshep and maleshep are both going to appear in the storyline. ;) We'll even have specific episode versions for the most popular love interests, one version per the character you romanced. It will be a lot of work, but... Hopefully will be worth it. ;)

Ah, do THATS why he dreamed of a forest! Context, i love context!
Also i love that Mordin and Thane, even dead or as messages and dreams are making important contributions to the story. I mean mordin did while alive too, but thane just got stabbed to death, which was pretty unfair.
This is also a nice look into Shepard's mind/past, quite like that.
If random kid too stupid to accept help from Commander "Galactic Badass" Shepard was a dream...Dammit yes. That annoyed me the most on Earth, especially when i was meant to care about dumb kid moreso than billions of others.
And we find Shepard does have a breaking point, which is good i think. Endured so much after all.
But crap i want to see the next one, after i see the variations you did. Even if its one line, worth a read.

Thank you, Haupmann, glad you liked it! :)

Indeed, the child's refusal of our help does have a bit more sense now, doesn't it. ;)

Yes, little bastard made things feel so very forced, but in the proper context it comes together, like a puzzle.

Hahahaha! Yes, the Starchild is HISTORY! (I hated that thing).

This is actually what I had expected BioWare to do with that kid - connecting him to a memory of Shepard's that shaped the person s/he became. They didn't get the memo - but you did! *hugs*

And Thane - you know, the role you've given him after death makes me, as a Thane-mancer, not so gut-wrenchingly upset with his death; I still don't like my LI kicking the bucket with no option to save, but at least here there is some sort of purpose to it.

I also love the subtle differences between each backstory.
