In a multiverse of infinite possibilities, I believe that there is a universe where Koobismo and his team were put in charge of Mass Effect 3, and my alternate self enjoyed the game with this level of great writing all the way through.
Stupid lucky alternate self! I hate you!

I hate to be critical, as this series is so awesome and the voice work in particular is incredible (seeing as you're trying to mimic existing voices, which means you're held to an unreasonable standard). But this really doesn't sound much like Thane to me. It sounds a lot more like Nihlus (which is probably not surprising, since it's probably the same guy who does Nihlus). Thane's voice has more of that... crackly effect, whatever it is, and I think it's also not actually as deep (more comes across as such because of the effect). I don't know that I'm describing it in a useful way, as I'm no expert on these things, but when I started listening and hadn't opened the comic, I assumed it was Nihlus talking, not Thane. And even after I realized which comic it was, I still couldn't really 'hear' it as Thane.

I suppose it's a sign of the high standard you guys have set for yourselves that this is the first time I've really had that issue. Some of the voices are better than others, but this is the first time I haven't found one of them to be instantly recognizable (only talking about the in-game characters, of course, not the Koobismo originals). A couple of them in particular are so well done that it's hard to tell the difference from the real VOs (Zaeed is one such, as I recall).

No need for apologies! Your comment was well said and offered constructive criticism. We really appreciate comments like this because it gives us VAs things to consider and try when voicing these well known and well loved characters! So thank you very much for your comment and input! We do really appreciate it. (:

I don't think you should hate being critical, especially since you're giving a constructive criticism. Even if you have trouble finding some of the words, I can understand what you mean, I do agree. I think it's also the "way" he talks. Some parts is very Thane-ish (especially the prayer), but others is more Nihlus-ish. I'm sure that they can improve, and it's with more comments like yours that they can take notice and see if there was anything that needed to be better.

So again, don't hate to be critical if your purpose is to help them improve and to give your insights as a fan of the series. :D

I'm sure the next recording with Thane will be much more Thane-ish. We have one of the guys who was largely responsible for the audio in ME1 and ME2 aboard, and he already did a great job on episode 31, even though he hadn't too much time for it. I'm sure he knows how to give Thane the proper sounds effects :) also, Matt O'Connor does Garrus, too :) I agree he sounded a little Turian in the first part of the audiobook and much more Drell-ish when doing the "prayer for the lost" :)

Indeed~ I still remember the first time I heard both Liara and Tali in audiobooks, and on the episode 31's audiobook, they sounded even better. Everyone's improving, and having Vance Dylan will surely make things even better, as it was already for 31.
jeffdaniel Featured By Owner Feb 26, 2013
Vance will be taking over production on the next Thane ep, as I was not able to provide the proper effect. Expect all future audiobooks to sound like they are right out of the game. And who knows, maybe we comeback and work on this one again. I can tell you, with the proper effect, Matt sounds very much like Thane. You will hear it soon.

*One small correction, Garrus is played by StephanosRex
